This song was around before before Brooks even joined the band. I think Bryan and I wrote most of it late one night at his house between Halo sessions, which is when we did most of our writing in the early days. I've always been proud of this one, and I wish we could have played it more often than we did.
lyrics
I'm armed with everything I need
Pen and paper and stories
Love and loss written in ink
You can't erase but you can change
I could write your perfect love song
Or laments about times gone
The back cover isn't bound on
With every moment comes a new blank page
This story's nonfiction, it's not over yet
This pen can't tell me what will happen next
This is your story, you're living it now
And you write the end
This won't be bent from page to screen
Broadway will never stage the scene
Cause only you know what it means
No one else can send that message
So read all the fairytales and rhymes
Live life by your favorite lines
You're the narrator this time
Don't let this be a boring passage
This story's nonfiction, it's not over yet
This pen can't tell me what will happen next
This is your story, you're living it now
And you write the end
You write new chapters every day
Breaking up and coming of age
You wish you wouldn't seperate
Like the couple in that novel
It's anti-climactic, you know
If you don't move on, let go
I'm not saying don't have hope
But you can make this end well
This story's nonfiction, it's not over yet
This pen can't tell me what will happen next
This is your story, you're living it now
And you write the end
You've gotta run
Too fast for him to catch you
Cause you don't want
Your story to read like
She read about the past
Over and over again
Until her last day
She died of regret
Of never falling love again
This story's nonfiction, it's not over yet
This pen can't tell me what will happen next
This is your story, you're living it now
And you write the end
You will write the end
